Churton has always been prepared to try new ways to make excellent wine and care for our environment.
Our latest innovation is the introduction of two beautiful draft horses, Xena and Gordon. These two beauties will be doing all the under-vine work that was once done by tractor. That means emissions are right down, the ground isn’t compacted by heavy machinery and there’s less water run off which improves soil quality.
The horses are being trained by Emma Rossignol, who moved to Churton from France in 2020. Emma trained horses to do this work in France and is bringing her specialty to the Waihopai Valley.
This is a big leap for us and we’d love your support. We’re launching a Pledgeme campaign on 16 October - great rewards and a chance to help us care for and train Xena and Gordon.
