Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Our distinctive hillside vineyard above the Waihopai Valley was planted in 2000 with a European approach, close vine spacing and high density (approx. 5,000/ha). We manage the vineyard according to principles of biodynamics and organics. Churton’s vineyard includes 10 unique Sauvignon Blanc blocks which we harvested entirely by hand over a 10 day period. 2015 produced a small yield of 45hl/ha of excellent quality fruit. The growing season was a little cooler than normal and very dry. Fruit was picked at good ripeness levels with higher acidity than typical.

Churton Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015 – Tasting Note

Keeping each parcel separate, all fruit was whole bunch pressed. 15% was fermented in seasoned 500 litre French oak barrels with the balance fermented and aged in stainless steel.
Following 10 months on lees, our Sauvignon Blanc was blended with the final cuvée consisting of six compelling blocks. Churton Sauvignon Blanc was gently fined to help clarify and bottled in March 2016.

Tasting Notes

A very good year with low yields produced an aromatic wine that combines stone fruit and yellow flower aromas. On the palate our 2015 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is intense with a creamy texture and layers of stone fruit. It finishes with crisp minerality and wonderful length.
